Te Waihorotiu Station construction progress

Earlier this month CRL celebrated the installation of the station's seven skylights, representing the Matariki constellation.

Each skylight glass panel is around 50mm thick and carefully transported and placed into their above-ground concrete casing and frame. Once completed with connecting garden beds, they will act as a median strip along Albert Street while also letting natural light into the underground station.

While most of us were in awe of Aurora Australis, midtown experienced a different kind of glow with light testing for the facade of Te Waihorotiu Station also taking place last week.

Underground, the CRL team is surging ahead with electrical milestones. Approximately 1,200km of electrical and communication cable is being installed - a total length equivalent to driving from Auckland to Wellington and back. Once complete, testing to ensure the network works will begin which is the first step of the CRL’s rigorous testing and commissioning phase.

To mark NZ Music Month, local singer and beatmaker Geneva AM was welcomed into Te Waihorotiu Station to perform a mix of classic covers and original waiata. Watch the preview featured on TVNZ's 1News and follow City Rail Link social channels for extended video releases during May.
